On this day, 74 years ago, the world’s first computer bug was discovered. Literally a bug. The supercomputer Mark II located at Harvard University in Cambridge was constantly delivering errors. When the maintenance team tried to find out what caused the issue, they found a moth which was trapped inside the computer and was causing failures.
The insect was attached to the logbook with the corresponding log: “First actual case of bug being found. Years later we still call the computer issues “bugs” despite the fact they are often caused by software.
We would like to congratulate all the people who seek the bugs and errors and wish them all the best! This was the day when the tester’s profession was born in the IT field, so it’s the day to recognize all your hard work to make the world a better place!
