A curious discovery was made by Mika Laine, chief physician at the heart and lung centre of the Helsinki and Uusimaa hospital district, made a curious discovery.
According to the interview he provided to Yle Radio 1 on Wednesday, 26th of May 2021, there were about 30% fewer heart attack patients registered across Finland.
Mika Laine states that this is not related to the fears to seek treatment during the pandemic. In his opinion, the reasons are less stressful remote work, less need to commute to workplaces through polluted city air, and the decision of many people to quit smoking. He also explained that the number of cerebral infarctions also decreased.
A similar trend for heart attacks rate was also observed in the United States.
